Am I Caving to the MAN and HIS Ways?

Question of the night: I decided to go to the Director of Grad Studies breakfast tomorrow (late of course because it starts at 8:30 am and I'll still be carting kids around) to accept my "award". My question is, does this mean I've now become ONE of the THEM, you know the ivory tower, 'ata boy' types? Double thinking my decision - don't want to be a sellout!

More info required before I can tell you if you're selling out. Which MAN and what award? And did you end up going to get the award??

MAN = general 'the man' - you know the powers that be, in this case the upper admin at MU

award = 2007 Outstanding Director of Graduate Studies at MU (given by the grad school - I was nominated by the students and faculty in the dept - that makes it cool!)

did I get it? yup, showed up in my shorts, sandles and t-shirt a full 45 minutes into the breakfast/awards gig; had to pull out my laptop and work on slides for the lecture I had to do at 10 in the Med School; waited all of 5 minutes, went up got my award (plaque, paperweight, grad school pin - yahhoooo, and a mall gift cert - this one is actually good!) and cut out - so in the end I certainly didn't sell out.

The selling out of a full-tenured professor... one plaque, one pin, a $50 gift certificate and paper weight

The love and adulation of those in his department that nominated him... priceless

Remember as you say, you're fully-tenured professor, even if you did sell out, who cares? Now if you had worn a tie, that would be seriously selling out.
